Netflix has ordered a comedy from The Mindy Project‘s Mindy Kaling, according to TheWrap. The series is reportedly a coming-of-age comedy and is as-yet-untitled. It was created by Kaling and Lang Fisher and is about the “complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenaged girl, inspired by Kaling’s childhood.”
The series will be executive produced by Kaling and Fisher, and Kaling is not currently set to act in the project. The streaming service has ordered 10 episodes as part of Kaling’s deal with Universal TV. According to the site, she is leaving that deal for one with Warner Bros. TV.
Mindy Kaling is known for playing the character of Kelly Kapoor as well as writing and producing the show. She also had her own series The Mindy Project. She has appeared in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Inside Out, Wreck-It Ralph, A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean’s 8. She is currently working on a limited TV series adaptation of Four Weddings and a Funeral at Hulu. She’ll next be seen in the upcoming feature film Late Night, opposite Emma Thompson. She also executive produced and wrote the film. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Amazon Studios.
