Marvel Studios‘ Captain Marvel earned an impressive $61.4 million total opening day (including $20.7 million from Thursday previews). The studio is projecting a three-day opening between $145 million and $155 million. The film received an A CinemaScore from audiences, meaning it will have positive word of mouth moving forward.
Internationally, Captain Marvel also continues to perform on the high side of expectations with an estimated $127 million collected through Friday and #1 western debuts in all markets. The opening day in China was $34.3 million and therefore the second-highest MCU opening day there behind only Avengers: Infinity War.
