HBO, Naughty Dog, and More Celebrate International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the day has been celebrated all across the world since 1911. It is a day to celebrate all of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while also looking at how to continue to improve upon gender equality across the globe. Each year the call to action or theme is different and focuses on one way to make improvements in the daily lives of women.

With this year’s theme #BalanceForBetter, there will be a lot of focus on how to balance out the genders in all areas of life. Overall, the gender balance is still not where it needs to be in businesses, media, sports, and more. However, this does not mean that we can’t celebrate the progress that has been made to address the gender balance.

As the day continues to roll out, several companies are coming forward to celebrate the women – both fictional and nonfictional- in their lives. HBO has come out with a video celebrating the variety of complex female characters that have dared to be different and have broken the rules on behalf of women. In the video above, you will see many of your favorite characters and you won’t be able to deny that many of them have broken the rules in order to get where they are today.

Naughty Dog, the studio behind The Last of Us and Uncharted, has also come out with a video to celebrate the women developers on their staff and celebrate all of the contributions they have made in order to ensure that the games that are released are the best that they can be. Many discuss how it has been awesome to see more female developers being brought on over the years as more companies open their doors. This not only has the impact of providing role models for girls who are interested in video games, but it also helps to increase that gender balance in the workplace.

Check out the videos and share your love with the hashtag #BalanceForBetter on International Women’s Day.
