Jared Harris Joins Jared Leto in Sony's Morbius

Jared Harris is joining the cast of Sony Pictures‘ comic book adaptation Morbius the Living Vampire, according to Deadline. The site says his role is being kept under wraps for now.

The actor’s TV credits include The TerrorThe Crown, The ExpanseMad Men, and Fringe, and he’s been in features like Mr. DeedsThe Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonSherlock Holmes: A Game of ShadowsLincoln, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Allied.

He joins a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide SquadBlade Runner 2049) as Morbius, Adria Arjona as Martine, the fiancée of the Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, as well as Matt Smith. In the comics, Morbius is dying from a rare disorder dissolving his blood cells and secretly begins working on a cure. After experimenting with serums that include distilled fluids from bats, Morbius turns into something resembling a vampire and is fearful that he will hurt Martine.

Daniel Espinosa (LifeSafe House) is set to direct the movie, scheduled for a July 31, 2020 release. Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama co-wrote the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee for the studio.

Created by writer Roy Thomas and originally designed by penciler Gil Kane, Morbius the Living Vampire first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 in October 1971.
