Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) is in talks to to star in Universal Pictures‘ The Invisible Man, to be written and directed by Leigh Whannell, according to Variety. Johnny Depp, who was originally attached to play the title character, is no longer involved.
Whannell will reunite with Jason Blum, who is producing through his Blumhouse Productions. The two have previously worked together on films such as Insidious: The Last Key and Upgrade.
As was previously announced, Universal is moving on from its planned interconnected “Dark Universe” concept and will instead concentrate on the individual monster properties. Upcoming titles for Universal’s new monster strategy will be rooted in horror, with no restrictions on budget, tone, or rating, and no expectation that they will exist as part of a shared universe.
