Paramount Dates Clifford the Big Red Dog and Rugrats Movies

Paramount Pictures has set release dates for two family films and removed one adaptation from its schedule. The studio’s Clifford the Big Red Dog movie will open in theaters on November 13, 2020. Already years in the making, the film is expected to be a live-action/CG hybrid.

Walt Becker (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip) is directing Clifford the Big Red Dog, based on Norman Birdwell’s children’s book series that was also turned into animated series. The story will center on the 25-foot-tall dog and his eight-year-old owner, Emily Elizabeth.

Next up, the studio has moved the Rugrats movie from November 13, 2020 to January 29, 2021. The live-action Rugrats movie with CGI characters will be written by David Goodman.

Rugrats focuses on a group of toddlers, Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, twins Phil and Lil DeVille, and Angelica Pickles, and their day-to-day lives that become adventures in their imaginations. The original Rugrats series launched in August of 1991 and instantly became a groundbreaking phenomenon, spawning consumer products, three hit theatrical releases and cementing its place in pop culture history through its iconic characters, storytelling and unique visual style.

And last, Paramount has taken Are You Afraid of the Dark? off of its release calendar. The big screen adaptation was previously set for an October 4, 2019 release date. Directed by D.J. Caruso from a script by Gary Dauberman and BenDavid Grabinski, the film will be based on the Canadian horror anthology series that aired in the 1990s.

The series revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as “The Midnight Society.” In every episode, one member would tell a scary story to the group which was displayed to the viewer.
