With Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation bringing in a franchise best $528.6 million worldwide last summer, Sony Pictures Animation is ready for another round and has scheduled Hotel Transylvania 4 for a December 22, 2021 release date.
That’s just a few days after Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer is scheduled on December 17, 2021 and it’s the same day that Wicked will be opening.
The first two films in the franchise both debuted in September, with the first movie making $358.4 million globally in 2012 and Hotel Transylvania 2 earning $474.8 million in 2015.
The first three films were directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and feature the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, and Mel Brooks.
In related animation news, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director and Academy Award winner Bob Persichetti has signed on to direct DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots 2, according to Deadline.
The first film was directed by Chris Miller and had Antonio Banderas again voicing the character from the Shrek movies. Puss in Boots opened in theaters in October of 2011 and earned $554.9 million at the worldwide box office.
Bob Persichetti also served as the Head of Story and voiced a role in Puss in Boots. Latifa Ouaou, who was a producer on the original, will oversee development of the sequel on behalf of Illumination and Chris Meledandri.
A release date has not been set yet for the sequel.
