Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy Release Date and Kingsman Moves to 2020

Disney’s 20th Century Fox has made several updates to its release schedule, while Warner Bros. Pictures has removed two films from its schedule (after it dated Space Jam 2Annabelle 3, and Godzilla vs. Kong earlier this week). Director Shawn Levy’s (Night at the Museum films, Real SteelFree Guy (watch the new trailer), starring Ryan Reynolds, has been set for a July 3, 2020 release. The Free Guy release date is the same as Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions sequel.

In Free Guy, also starring Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Lil Rel (Get Out), and Joe Keery (Stranger Things), a bank teller stuck in his routine discovers he’s a background character in a rather brutal open world, action-adventure video game and he is the only one capable of saving his world. He’ll get the help of an avatar, played by Comer, whose name is Molotov Girl. In the real world, she is a mousy programmer who actually created the game but was devastated when it was stolen from her.

Rel is Reynolds’ best friend and fellow Non-Playable Character who doesn’t believe his friend’s seemingly outlandish claims. Keery is a programmer who may or may not have a secret agenda.

James Mangold’s new untitled film (aka Ford vs. Ferrari) was previously facing Annabelle 3Limited Partners, and Yesterday on June 28, 2019 but will now open in theaters on November 15, 2019. Also scheduled for that date are The Good Liar and Last Christmas. The film stars Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Josh Lucas, and Noah Jupe.

Previously set for a November 15, 2019, the next Kingsman movie (aka Kingsman: The Great Game) will now hit theaters on February 14, 2020. Again directed and written by Matthew Vaughn, the prequel will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gemma Arterton, Charles Dance, Daniel Brühl, Harris Dickinson, and Ralph Fiennes.

Warner Bros. Pictures has removed Margie Claus from its release schedule. The musical comedy, starring Melissa McCarthy, was previously scheduled for a November 15, 2019 release. Ben Falcone will direct from a script he wrote with Damon Jones.

Also, the Minecraft movie had been set for May 24, 2019, but Warner Bros. Pictures is moving that back. Just last month, the studio announced that Peter Sollett (Raising Victor Vargas) will write and direct the adaptation of the popular video game. The story reportedly follows a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers who, after the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.
