Oscar Isaac Joins the Dune Cast as Chalamet’s Father

Oscar Isaac (upcoming Triple Frontier and Star Wars: Episode IX) has joined the Dune cast and will portray Timothée Chalamet’s father in the Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049Arrival) reboot, according to Variety. He will join a cast that includes Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor films), and Charlotte Rampling.

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly-valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Ferguson will play Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, who escapes with him into the desert. Skarsgard will play Baron Harkonnen, whose family previously ruled Arrakis and has a long hatred of the Atreides family, plotting with the galactic emperor to destroy it. He is also the uncle to “Beast” Rabban (Bautista).

Filming will start this Spring in Budapest and Jordan. Villeneuve is directing from a script he wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve will also produce the movie along with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

The book was previously adapted into a 1984 movie directed by David Lynch and starring Kyle MacLachlan. It was also turned into a miniseries on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2000.
