Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, The X-Files) will play former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in Netflix drama The Crown, according to The Sunday Times. Fans who are looking forward to seeing her as Thatcher will have a long wait though – she won’t appear until Season 4.
Thatcher, aka “The Iron Lady,” served as Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990 and Prime Minister of the UK from 1979 to 1990. She was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th Century and the first woman to hold that office. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 87.
The cast for Season 3 The Crown includes Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Margaret’s husband, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand, and Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother.
The Crown tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world — Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Two houses, two courts, one Crown.
The Crown Season 3 will launch in 2019, with Season 4 likely following in 2020.
