HBO has set the Game of Thrones prequel cast. Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX), Denise Gough (Monday), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia films), Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at Parties) and Toby Regbo (The Last Kingdom, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) have all joined in series regular roles.
They join the previously-announced Game of Thrones prequel cast members Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse. The cable channel has not revealed who they are playing. The only thing that is known is that Watts will play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.
S.J. Clarkson (upcoming Star Trek, Collateral, Jessica Jones) has also signed on to direct the pilot and she will executive produce as well.
The Game of Thrones prequel, created by Jane Goldman and author George R.R. Martin, will begin filming in Belfast in early 2019. Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.
The Game of Thrones prequel pilot is based on a story from Goldman and Martin, with a teleplay credited to Goldman, who will serve as the showrunner. Goldman and Martin will also serve as executive producers, along with Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman (Damages, Bloodline).
