On the red carpet for the Golden Globes, Marvel President Kevin Feige spoke to MTV News about the nominated Black Panther, as well as giving updates on the title for Avengers: Endgame, what we’ll see in the Endgame trailers, the status of Captain Marvel, a possible Silver Surfer movie, his excitement about the Marvel Studios/Fox deal and whether or not we’ll see Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Check out what he had to say below.
On the nomination of Black Panther: “Well, it’s amazing. It’s certainly the most important victory we’ve ever had. We had high expectations. We spend a lot of money on these movies. We put a lot of time into these movies. We believe in them and we expect them to do well enough that we can do another one. That it had the cultural impact it had is what is most meaningful. This is my first time at the Globes — that Black Panther has the power to bring Marvel…to the Golden Globes is pretty exciting, too.”
On the Avengers: Endgame title: “It was in place before we started developing the movie, or just as we were developing it. So Dr. Strange says that line because we knew it was the title.”
It’s been said that we won’t see moments from anything past the first 15 to 20 minutes of Avengers: Endgame in the upcoming trailers. When asked if it was “somewhat accurate,” Feige said: “Yeah, I’d call it somewhat accurate. I think, as was the case with a lot of our films, this one in particular, being able to generate a lot of excitement, without giving away any of the many, many, many, many secrets — many, many, many secrets, would be ideal. And I think the Disney marketing team is the best in the world and we’ll be able to pull it off.”
On Captain Marvel: “Brie Larson is incredible. She’s an amazing actor. We are still working on the cut. The effects are coming together, the music is coming together, the final mix. Were I not on this carpet tonight, I would be in the cutting room and on the mix stage, where the rest of the team is right this second.”
On Adam McKay saying he might give Feige a call about a Silver Surfer movie: “I have not gotten a call yet, but I’ve seen Adam tonight and at a number of these awards and he is, not only, as everybody knows, an incredibly smart guy, he’s an honest to goodness fan. And, you know, he did a lot of behind-the-scenes help with the Ant-Man film and, have you seen Vice? Little cameo. Little Galactus cameo in there that we helped him get. So, I look forward to speaking with him more.”
On which Fox properties Feige is excited about: “The truth is, I’m excited for all of them. I’m excited — and it’s not just the marquee names you know. There are hundreds of names on those documents, on those agreements. And the fact that Marvel is as close as we may ever get now to having access to all of the characters, is something that I’ve been dreaming about for my almost 20 years at Marvel, and it’s very exciting.”
On the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and James Gunn moving to the DC Universe: “I went to see Aquaman last night and I really, really enjoyed it. And you know me. I’ve always supported — I don’t see a rivalry. I see cool films being made. And one thing you know about James Gunn — he makes cool films. Guardianswill happen. When, where, how is for a later time.”
