Dave Bautista is Joining Denis Villeneuve's Dune Adaptation

Dave Bautista (Guardians of the GalaxySpectre) is joining Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name) and Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – FalloutThe Greatest Showman) in Legendary‘s Dune, the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049Arrival).

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly-valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Ferguson will play Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, who escapes with him into the desert. Bautista will be playing “Beast” Rabban, the sadistic nephew of a baron who oversees Arrakis, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts wrote the script. Villeneuve will also produce the movie along with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

The book was previously adapted into a 1984 movie directed by David Lynch and starring Kyle MacLachlan. It was also turned into a miniseries on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2000.
