As we await tomorrow’s trailer, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a new Hellboy image featuring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the title character, Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan, and Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0, Lost) as Major Ben Daimio.
“It’s not an origin story, but it’s his coming to terms with where he came from,” Harbour told the magazine. “He’s been Hellboy for a long time, but there’s a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it’s really the first time he’s heard anything like that. The question that comes up in the movie is where does he really belong?”
In the April 12, 2019 release, based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
The cast also includes Ian McShane (American Gods, Deadwood) as Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Milla Jovovich (upcoming Monster Hunter, Resident Evil films) as villain Nimue, aka the Blood Queen, and Penelope Mitchell (Hemlock Grove) as the elder witch Ganeida.
Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) is directing from a script by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and the character’s creator, Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin will produce with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.
The property was made into a film starring Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Jeffrey Tambour and John Hurt in 2004, directed by Guillermo del Toro, with a sequel called Hellboy: The Golden Army, also directed by Del Toro, which premiered in theaters back in 2008.
