Deadline is reporting that actress Adria Arjona is in talks to play the female lead in the Sony Pictures comic book adaptation Morbius the Living Vampire. Arjona would play Martine, the fiancée of Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius. In the comics, Morbius is dying from a rare disorder dissolving his blood cells and secretly begins working on a cure. After experimenting with serums that include distilled fluids from bats, Morbius turns into something resembling a vampire and is fearful that he will hurt Martine.
Daniel Espinosa (Life, Safe House) is set to direct the movie, which will feature Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2049) as Morbius. Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama co-wrote the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee for the studio.
Created by writer Roy Thomas and originally designed by penciler Gil Kane, Morbius the Living Vampire first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 in October 1971.
Adria Arjona’s credits include NBC’s Emerald City, as well as the feature films Pacific Rim Uprising and Life of the Party. She will appear in the upcoming Netflix features 6 Underground and Triple Frontier, and she also has a role in Amazon’s Good Omens. The site adds that Adria Arjona has signed to star in Olivier Assayas’ Wasp Network as well.
