Into the Spider-Verse Sequel and Female Spinoff in the Works

Although the movie doesn’t hit theaters until December 14th, Sony Pictures Animation is already working on a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel and a spinoff movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joaquim Dos Santos (Voltron Legendary DefenderAvatar: The Last Airbender) has been hired to direct the Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

Lauren Montgomery, who also worked on Voltron and co-directed Batman: Year One and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, is also in negotiations to direct an untitled Spider-centric project that will team up the female heroes in the Spider-Man universe of characters in one adventure. Bek Smith (Zoo) will write the script.

With Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, the film’s voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Lily Tomlin, Kimiko Glenn, John Mulaney, and Nicolas Cage.

The producers are Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg.
