New Hellboy Photo and the Director Says It's More Violent

We’re still waiting for the first trailer to come online (the first footage debuted at the New York Comic-Con), but for now Empire magazine is bringing us a new Hellboy photo featuring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the title character.

The magazine also talked to director Neil Marshall about what fans can expect from the April 12, 2019 release. “It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick,” Marshall said. “More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

The Hellboy cast also includes Ian McShane (American GodsDeadwood) as Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Milla Jovovich (upcoming Monster Hunter, Resident Evil films) as villain Nimue, aka the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell (Hemlock Grove) as the elder witch Ganeida, and Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0, Lost) as Major Ben Daimio.

Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) is directing from a script by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and the character’s creator, Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin will produce with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.
