Newcomer Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations to play Cassandra Cain in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Birds of Prey, according to Variety. You can view a photo of Ella Jay Basco via the tweet below. She has previously appeared in guest roles on Grey’s Anatomy, Veep, and Superior Donuts.
She joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ewan McGregor as the villain Black Mask. To learn more about Cassandra Cain, click here.
According to Variety, the film will have Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary teaming up to protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
Robbie, who is also producing, previously said Birds of Prey will be “different,” rated R, and made with a “much smaller budget” than Suicide Squad, in which she first played Harley Quinn.
Cathy Yan will direct the Warner Bros. release from a script by Christina Hodson. Birds of Prey will be produced by Robbie, Kroll & Co Entertainment’s Sue Kroll, and Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless.
Warner Bros. and DC have set a February 7, 2020 release date for the film.
