Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange is the New Black), Mamie Gummer (True Detective, Ricki and the Flash), Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) and Brian Cox (Succession) have joined the cast of Separation, directed by William Brent Bell (The Boy, The Devil Inside) and written by Nick Amadeus and Joshua Braun.
As previously announced, Rupert Friend stars in the film, produced by Bell together with Yale Productions’ Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, Russ Posternak and Jesse Korman, and RainMaker’s Clay Pecorin and Russell Geyser. The executive producers are Seth Posternak and Dennis Rice. Yale Productions’ Jon Keeyes serves as a co-producer. Production is underway in New York.
Equally inspired by iconic family drama Kramer vs Kramer and contemporary supernatural thrillers like The Sixth Sense and Mama, Separation explores the horrifying consequences of divorce like no film before. Friend and Gummer star as Jeff and Maggie Vahn, a newly-separated couple battling for custody of their 7-year-old daughter Jenny (played by Violet McGraw).
Brewer portrays the couple’s longtime nanny Samantha Nally, with Cox playing Maggie’s overbearing father Paul Rivers.
