Warner Bros. Television announced today that Will Patton (Halloween, Armageddon, The Punisher) will play Avery Sunderland in DC Universe‘s Swamp Thing. As its most prominent businessman, Avery Sunderland serves as the de facto patriarch of his Louisiana hometown, always giving back to the community. His benevolent veneer, however, masks a ruthless determination to harness the power of the swamp for profit.
Will Patton joins a cast that includes Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jennifer Beals as Sheriff Lucilia Cable, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, and Virginia Madsen as Sunderland’s wife, Maria.
In Swamp Thing, when CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland – only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous – and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman are executive producers of Swamp Thing, which is based on characters from DC which were created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Rob Hackett is co-producer. The series is produced by Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television. Verheiden & Dauberman are writing the first episode and Len Wiseman is set to direct.
The live-action series will premiere on the streaming service in 2019.
