Ewan McGregor to Play Black Mask in Birds of Prey!

Ewan McGregor is in final negotiations to play the villain Black Mask in Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Birds of Prey, according to TheWrap. He joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya.

Black Mask is a Gotham City mob boss created by Doug Moench and Tom Mandrake. He first appeared in Batman #386 in August of 1985. The character is a brutally sadistic kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld who has a fixation with masks.

Robbie, who is also producing, previously said Birds of Prey will be “different,” rated R, and made with a “much smaller budget.”

Cathy Yan will direct the Warner Bros. release from a script by Christina Hodson. Birds of Prey will be produced by Robbie, Kroll & Co Entertainment’s Sue Kroll, and Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless.

Warner Bros. and DC recently set a February 7, 2020 release date for the film.
