SwingLake Entertainment has announced the start of production for Walkaway Joe, which will mark Tom Wright’s directorial debut. Wright is known for his acting work in Pursuit of Happiness, Barbershop, and Ray Donovan. Principal photography began in September in St. John’s Parish, Louisiana.
In the film, when Dallas’ pool-hustling father abandons his family, Dallas takes to his bicycle to find him. Dallas is determined to bring his father home. Enter Joe Haley, a drifter wrestling with a past he’d rather forget. Feeling responsible for the boy’s safety, Joe reluctantly takes him in.
Walkaway Joe stars Academy Award nominee David Strathairn, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead), Julian Feder, and Julie Ann Emery.
From writer Michael Milillo (Churchill), Walkaway Joe is the story of an unlikely friendship between a teenage boy searching for his father and a wandering loner hiding from his past.
The film is produced by Rachel McHale, Minor Childers, and Michael Milillo. The production team includes director of photography Steve Bernstein, Jan Kovac as editor, and Emmy Award-winning composer Christophe Beck (Ant-Man films).
