World War Z earned an impressive $540 million worldwide in 2013, and fans have been waiting ever since to hear more about a possible sequel. Variety got a chance to ask producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner about the status of the sequel, which will again star Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane. They revealed that World War Z 2 filming is expected to begin in June of 2019 under the direction of David Fincher. He’ll be directing from a script by Dennis Kelly.
Based on the best-selling novel by Max Brooks, the first film follows a former United Nations investigator (Brad Pitt) as he helps stop the chaotic pandemic that has gripped populations around the world. World War Z was directed by Marc Forster from a script by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof.
Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse co-star in the first film. The sequel is also produced by Pitt and Skydance‘s David Ellison.
