Michael Peña will play Mr. Roarke in Sony Pictures and Blumhouse Productions‘ new Fantasy Island movie, according to Deadline. The movie, based on the ABC series, will be directed by Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare, Kick-Ass 2).
Before it became a TV series, Fantasy Island was introduced to viewers in 1977 and 1978 with two TV movies. Airing from 1978 to 1984, the Gene Levitt-created series starred Ricardo Montalbán as Mr. Roarke, the overseer of a mysterious island where people could come and live out their fantasies, albeit for a price. He was initially accompanied by a sidekick, Tattoo, played by Hervé Villechaize.
Wadlow is writing the script with Truth or Dare co-writers Chris Roach and Jillian Jacons, with Jason Blum producing. Wadlow will executive produce along with Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson. Ryan Turek is overseeing for Blumhouse and Matt Milan for Sony.
Peña can next be seen in theaters in Clint Eastwood’s The Mule on November 14 and just two days later on Netflix in Narcos: Mexico. The actor is currently filming Paramount and Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer movie.
