The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle Release Pushed Back to 2020

The movie will now face Just Mercy and Bad Boys 3

Universal Pictures has pushed back The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle release date from April 12, 2019 to January 17, 2020, which is the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. The other two films scheduled for January 17 are Warner Bros. Pictures’ Just Mercy and Sony Pictures’ possible Bad Boys for Life, which is nearing a green light.

Robert Downey Jr. brings a signature new take on a very particular genius in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle Project, a sweeping adventure directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan.

The cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Octavia Spencer, Marion Cotillard, Frances de la Tour, Selena Gomez, Rami Malek, Carmen Ejogo, Craig Robinson, Tom Holland, Kumail Nanjiani, John Cena, Ralph Fiennes, and Emma Thompson.

Based on the enduring tales imagined by Hugh Lofting, the epic journey will be produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent), alongside Susan Downey (Sherlock Holmes franchise, The Judge) for Team Downey. Gaghan wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay from an earlier draft by Tom Shepherd.
