Alita, Dark Phoenix, and Gambit Release Dates Pushed Back

And Deadpool 2 is returning to theaters...

Deadpool 2 Writers on the Upcoming PG-13 Version

Even though 20th Century Fox debuted the trailer and poster for Dark Phoenix this week, the studio has already announced a new release date for the film, and the studio has made other moves as well.

We’ll start with Alita: Battle Angel, which the studio has moved from a December 21, 2018 release date to February 14, 2019. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the big screen adaptation stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Keean Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson.

Taking the December 21 slot is a family-friendly version of Deadpool 2 featuring Fred Savage doing a narration like The Princess Bride. Yup, you read that correctly. It also explains Ryan Reynolds’ post from earlier:

Moving away from the February 14 date is Dark Phoenix, which will now open on June 7, 2019. Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, the X-Men movie stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Moving away from the June 7 date is Gambit, starring Channing Tatum. That comic book movie is now set for March 13, 2020. Producer Simon Kinberg recently told IGN that the film will be like a romantic comedy.

“You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely,” Kinberg said, “It’s not like they’re gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It’s just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are.”
