Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has been revealed in the first official photo and set photos. The 43-year-old actor filmed scenes for Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Joker in Manhattan with an actual clown, and to mark the occasion, director Todd Phillips has shared the new photo. In the post, he calls the character “Arthur,” who will become the Joker. You can view the photo and the set photos below.
The cast of the film also includes Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Robert De Niro. Beetz (Deadpool 2, Atlanta) will play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime, while Conroy portrays the Joker’s mother, Penny. Maron will play the role of a booking agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad.
Warner Bros. Pictures has set an October 4, 2019 release date for the Todd Phillips-directed Joker. The film centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
Phillips will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with writer Scott Silver (The Fighter). The film will be produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff and executive produced by Richard Baratta. Joker is expected to begin production in September in New York.
Filming is scheduled to begin in two weeks. The movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
