The BBC and BBC America today announced the Doctor Who Series 11 premiere date. The US premiere will start at the same time as the UK debut on-air on Sunday, October 7th (time to be announced), followed by a special encore in its new regular primetime evening slot. For the run of the season, Doctor Who will premiere regularly on BBC America on its new marquee night on Sundays.
With a new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and new friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh), this eagerly-anticipated first season from new showrunner Chris Chibnall will welcome back fans and invite those who are new to Who. The next era is packed full of action, humor, emotion, and adventures through space and time, starting with the first episode, titled “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”
“New Doctor, new home! Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor is about to burst into Sunday nights – and make the end of the weekend so much more exciting,” said Chibnall. Get everybody’s homework done, sort out your Monday clothes, then grab some special Sunday night popcorn, and settle down with all of the family for Sunday night adventures across space and time. (Also, move the sofa away from the wall so parents can hide behind it during the scary bits). The Thirteenth Doctor is falling from the sky and it’s going to be a blast.”
Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, added: “With Chris Chibnall at the helm and Jodie Whittaker’s arrival as the new Doctor we are heralding a brand new era for the show and so it feels only right to give it a new home on Sunday nights at the heart of BBC One’s Autumn schedule.
In Doctor Who Series 11, Jodie Whittaker will be the Thirteenth Time Lord and is taking over from Peter Capaldi. She is joined in the new series by three regular cast members. Bradley Walsh will star as Graham, Tosin Cole will play Ryan, and Mandip Gill will play Yasmin. Also joining in a returning role is Sharon D Clarke.
Doctor Who Series 11 will be a 10-week run of 50-minute episodes in fall 2018, kicking off with a feature-length hour for the opening launch.
