It’s been over five years since the John Moore-directed A Good Day to Die Hard hit theaters, but now we’re learning more about Die Hard 6. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke to Empire Online and said that the script for the project (formerly known as Die Hard: Year One) carries the title McClane.
The film will feature both Bruce Willis as the current John McClane and a younger actor as the character when he was an NYPD police officer in the ’70s.
“You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says McClane. We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before,” di Bonaventura told the magazine.
He added that we’ll be seeing just as much of Willis as we will the younger incarnation. “I don’t know how you do Die Hard without Bruce. The idea that he’s not very significant in this movie is not accurate at all. We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.”
McClane director Len Wiseman told /Film last month that the film will be “working in parallel, cutting back and forth. What we see in the ‘70s has ramifications on present day Bruce. That hasn’t changed at all.”
In that interview, he added that we’ll be seeing a younger Holly Gennero McClane (played by Bonnie Bedelia in the first two films) as well. “There is [a young Holly]. I will tell you there is. There may very well be [a reunion].”
The film could possibly be based on Howard Chaykin’s comic book series Die Hard: Year One (Boom! Studios), which was set more than a decade before the first Die Hard movie. In the comic, John McClane is a rookie cop, an East Coast guy working on earning his badge in New York City during 1976’s Bicentennial celebration.
