Mr. Robot set to end with its fourth season

The hit USA Network series Mr. Robot is going to end with its fourth season, according to THR. The show is set to end in 2019 with a reportedly expanded 12-episode order. Mr. Robot, starring Rami Malek (the upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody) will begin shooting the final season in New York over the winter. The expanded season will have the same number of episodes as Season 2, and is up from what was originally thought to be eight episodes.

Producer Sam Esmail said in a statement to the site: “When I first created the world of Mr. Robot, I thought it would be a niche television series with a small, cult following. Over the past three years, it has become so much more, and I am continually humbled by the show’s recognition and by the amazing cast and crew that work tirelessly to help bring my vision to life. Since day one, I’ve been building toward one conclusion — and in breaking the next season of Mr. Robot, I have decided that conclusion is finally here. Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Therefore, season four will serve as the final chapter of the Mr. Robot story. To fans of the show: thank you for the past three years, and I can’t wait to share this exciting final season with you.”

Esmail has previously said that the show would likely run for four or five seasons.

Malek won an Emmy award for lead actor in a drama series for Mr. Robot and the show was nominated for Best Drama. Malek will next be seen as rock star Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rhapsody, in the Amazon miniseries Homecoming with Julia Roberts, and the USA Network drama pilot Briarpatch with Rosario Dawson. He’s also working on a feature about Angelyne and a miniseries based on the Fritz Lang film Metropolis.
