Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Moana) is set to star in the upcoming Black Adam movie, but there hasn’t been a lot of news about it lately. As you may recall, the character was supposed to debut in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi. We saw the trailer for that film at San Diego Comic-Con, but a while back it was announced that Black Adam would have his own film.
Black Adam is still happening and now we have an update. Seven Bucks Productions president of production Hiram Garcia told Collider during an extensive interview that the film is currently “very deep into a script on it right now, which is coming along really well.”
He continued, “So where we are now with Black Adam is we just got our latest script [from Adam Sztykiel]. We’re doing some revisions on it. We’re extremely excited about it, the studio’s very excited about it. And I’m telling you man, as a comic book fan, when this thing comes out, it is going to be amazing (laughs). This is the fanboy in me talking to you, it’s going to deliver on the goods of everything you’d want to see Black Adam do, he’s going to be doing in this film.”
Garcia also spoke about the character we’re going to see. He told the site that Black Adam is going to be powerful. “Especially when he’s not a boy scout. Especially when he’s got edge to him. Like, he’s not the boy scout superhero, he’s the guy that’s like, okay, you cross him? Well, I rip your head off, and then I move on to the next guy.”
Black Adam is based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck. He is the enemy of Shazam. Black Adam first appeared in the first issues of Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family in December 1945, and began to appear in the Shazam! comics in the 1970s.
