The Game of Thrones prequel, created by Jane Goldman and author George R.R. Martin, will begin filming in Belfast in early 2019. A director or casting director have not been hired yet. Goldman and Martin’s prequel will be set thousands of years before the events of the current show. The channel previously teased the new series with the following logline: “Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it’s not the story we think we know.”

The Game of Thrones prequel pilot is based on a story from Goldman and Martin, with a teleplay credited to Goldman, who will serve as the showrunner. Goldman and Martin will also serve as executive producers, along with Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman (Damages, Bloodline).
