HBO has given the series order to Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen, which will debut in 2019. Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
The Watchmen series cast will include Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon.
Damon Lindelof is executive producing and writing the series, which also be executive produced by Nicole Kassell, Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, and Joseph Iberti. The pilot will be directed by Kassell.
Watchmen is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on characters from DC.
The Watchmen series will be adapted from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ limited comic book series, which was previously turned into a Zack Snyder-directed movie in 2009.
