Billy Dee Williams will reprise the role of Lando Calrissian for Star Wars: Episode IX, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Williams last played the role in live-action form in 1983’s Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. He’s also voiced the role in Star Wars Rebels and in video games.
The role was last played by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which hit theaters on May 25, 2018. The character made his debut in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all returning for the anticipated movie. It was recently announced that Keri Russell (The Americans) is joining the cast as well.
J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
